Board Purpose
The Board's purpose is to assure that the organization achieves the results described
in the Board's Results policies and that it operates according to the values
expressed in the Board's Operational Expectations policies.
The School Board of Eden Prairie represents, leads, and serves the organization's
stakeholders and holds itself accountable to them by acting in their best interests
and by ensuring that all Board and organizational action is consistent with law
and the Board’s policies.
Board Meetings
The School Board typically begins business meetings at 6 p.m. Check the calendar
below for the dates and agendas of upcoming meetings. Meetings are held in the Administrative
Services Center, 8100 School Road. The purpose of the Board meetings is for the
Board to conduct its business in public--to assure that the organization is achieving
the Results policies.
All regular business meetings of the School Board will be posted on the Eden Prairie
School District website and shown on cable television for two weeks after each meeting.
They will be shown on channel 14 Thursdays at 9 p.m. and again Saturdays at 10 a.m.
Addressing the Board at a Meeting
There are two places for public comment during a Board meeting. The first is at
the beginning of the agenda and is used for comments specific to items on the agenda
for that Board meeting. The second is near the end of the agenda and is available
for comment on topics not on the agenda for that Board meeting. So that the Board
can manage meetings efficiently, it is helpful if anyone wishing to comment at a
meeting calls or emails the Superintendent's Office in advance of the meeting: jpexa@edenpr.org or (952) 975-7115 or
jsimmons@edenpr.org or (952) 975-7015.
If you wish to speak during the either of the "Public Comment" portions
of the agenda, you will be asked for your name and address. Since the purpose of
the Board meeting is for the Board to conduct its business, it expects all participants
in the meeting to maintain a proper sense of decorum and respect for all points
of view.
Calendar of Meetings 2010-2011
The School Board Work Plan lays out the schedule for monitoring policies
as well as engagement sessions and other activities to improve Board performance.
You can download the current 2010-2011 School Board Work Plan.
Below, in the Board Meeting Chart, you will find a list of all the Board's meetings
for the 2010-2011 school year along with the agendas. With the agenda, you’ll see
monitoring reports as they were presented to the Board. The latest approved monitoring
reports for each policy can be found in the Board Policy Chart on the "Board
Policies and Reports" page. Unofficial minutes are posted in the days following
a meeting, and official minutes replace them once they are approved by a Board vote
at the following Board meeting. The video of each meeting is removed after 90 days
while the official record of Board business, the minutes, remain online all year.
At the bottom of this page, you'll also find an archive of the past year's
Board meetings.
Stakeholder Connections
Eden Prairie School Board members are providing an additional opportunity for two-way
dialog with students, staff, parents, and community members. These "Stakeholder
Connections" will be held before the second Board meeting of the month throughout
the school year (with the exception of December, this Stakeholder Connection session
will be held on December 7) from 5 - 5:45 p.m. at the Administrative Services Center,
8100 School Road. These opportunities are intended to further the Board's work around
initiating and maintaining constructive two-way dialog with stakeholders.
It is requested that anyone wanting to speak to the full board please contact Jackie
Simmons at jsimmons@edenpr.org or (952)
975-7015. School Board member information is always available on the website for
phone calls or email if you are unable to attend and wish to speak with the board.
Each person wishing to speak with the Board will be given five minutes to accommodate
all stakeholders in attendance. The time frame is set to finish at 5:50 p.m. to
allow enough time for the Board to be ready for the School Board meeting. Those
who provide advance notification will be prioritized. These dialog opportunities
are being piloted by the School Board Connections Committee for a recommendation
to the full board for the fall.
